About Us

It is said that when God created the Earth, Adam was walked through the Garden of Eden. God showed Adam the trees and animals, declaring, “Look at My works! See how beautiful they are. For your sake I created them all.” But this was not an unlimited gift. God admonished Adam to care for the world around him: “See to it that you do not spoil and destroy My world; for if you do, there will be no one else to repair it.” (Midrash Kohelet Rabbah, 1 on Ecclesiastes 7:13).

This lesson rings true today. Each of us is constantly confronted with choices–choices that can celebrate God’s creation or that can “spoil and destroy” it. We hope this blog, which represent the personal views of COEJL staff and other guests, provides a forum for us to discuss our connection to creation. So, enough said, please tell us what you think and join us as we fulfill God’s commandment “To Till and to Tend.” (And, don't forget to check back-as we will make every effort to respond to your comments, too)
